2010 STATE MEET NEWS!!
Thanks to all who came to Crestwood High School on March 27 for the State Strength Meet. There were many new State Records set today (will add to the State Record list soon), and the meet went smoothly.
A great thanks to Athletic Director for Sumter County School District 2 - Debbie Smith for graciously allowing our association to "invade" the campus with over 400 lifters and over 65 schools. Also a huge thank you to Keith Crolley, Head Football Coach of Crestwood. He was on the go the entire day working tirelessly for the program.
There were many, many volunteers, judges from across the state, etc. Two people that I really need to thank are Lance and CeCe Newman, who don't even have a student at Crestwood or in the meet, but worked from sun-up to time to leave doing whatever was asked of them. Truly dedicated to working with the young people of our society.
Also, Richard Anderson - a true guru in the strength and conditioning field - brought an excellent exhibition of his new business - ACME Fitness Equipment. Richard has worked in specialized instruction with many NFL and college teams and is interested in making all young athletes better through strength and conditioning. He specializes in bands, ropes and kettlebells, but also carries so much more. Hopefully, his website will be taking off soon.
The official results are posted under the RESULTS tab to the left. They are in an Excel file, and it may be wise to set your macro security settings to Medium before opening.
Again, thank you for coming to Crestwood and to Sumter, SC. We were glad to have you and look forward to seeing you again.
At the annual Board of Directors and Members meeting on January 20, 2010, the location for the 2010 State Meet was set for Crestwood High School in Sumter County. The meet will be on March 27, 2010 with more information to follow.
Additionally, the state meet for this year will only consist of the 1st Place JV lifter from weight classes from Region Meets and the Top 3 Varsity lifters from all weight classes from Region Meets. There will be no alternates selected this year.
Athletes at this year's state meet will lift in a flighted style with the JV lifter and 3rd place Varsity lifter competing in the first flight, followed by the other lifters. All athletes will still compete in the standard 4 events - Bench Press, Squat, Standing Broad Jump, and 40 Yard Dash.
Also, a new weigh-in rule was passed for the 2010 State Meet. Qualified lifters will be able to early weigh-in on Friday, March 26 at sites determined by Region Directors. In essence, lifters from Region 1 could weigh in at the site chosen by Joey Sheppard (Region 1 Director) on Friday rather than weighing in early on Saturday morning. Early weigh-in times will be from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on March 26.
Those athletes travelling to Crestwood who plan to spend the night at a local hotel can choose to weigh-in at Crestwood between the hours of 2:00pm and 8:00pm.
All Region Directors shall also record the athlete's first attempt on the bench press and squat at this early weigh in period and submit all results to Brian Jackson by 8:00pm on March 26.
Weigh-ins will still be available on Saturday morning at the State Meet site from 7:00am until 8:30am. Those not weighed in by 8:30am will not be able to compete.
Please be sure to check the official 2010 State Strength Meet page for additional information!
Two demonstrations were presented at the meeting as well. Shane Miller of Athlete's Arena in Columbia presented information for all coaches that his business has a new Power Blog website where coaches can view demonstration videos, workouts, etc. Please check his information on our links page.
Additionally, Ray Anderson of Sorinex Exercise Equipment brought his 25+ years as a linebacker consultant for over 9 NFL teams with a demonstration using kettlebells. Please see his link as well.
1-18-09 - New site, new layout, etc.
As you can tell, the layout, look, and feel of the SCHSSCA website has undergone a dramatic change. I just felt compelled to do something different, and the other site was getting a little jumbled.
All of the menu items to choose from are now located on the left side of every page. If you want to get back to the main page of this site, just click on the logo in the top left of any page.
All documents embedded for download are able to be opened with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.)
As always, after your region meet, please email all lifting data to both Brian Jackson and Kevin Kaga so they can make the final lists for the State Meet.
